Hello and a big, warm welcome to our Year Three page at Hambleton Primary Academy, here we hope you find everything you need to know about us!
In Year Three we follow the Key Skills Curriculum which is our bespoke, creative approach based on the National Curriculum which makes sure the children learn and develop skills appropriate for their year group. We will be working hard to develop our existing skills from key Stage 1 as well as learning lots of new and exciting things this year!
We ensure every lesson meets the needs of the whole class and endeavour that each child succeeds in their activities. They love this whole school approach and cannot wait to move on to the next challenge in their learning. Children have lots of opportunities to respond to feedback both verbally and in their books. They are given in time each lesson to correct any mistakes from the previous lesson. They may also be given ‘Challenge Time’, whereby children are given a linked task that encourages the child to apply their learning. After discussions with you as the parents, intervention will be put in place to support your child as and when it’s needed.
We provide a broad and engaging curriculum which is based on the children’s interests and ways of learning which sees all children achieving the best they can. We ensure lessons are engaging and foster a love for learning, as we plan around a book, we aim these at the children’s age and interests as we foster a love of reading across school. We will listen to children read throughout the school week and regularly check that they have understood what they are reading. If ready, they will then be moved to the next reading level. Our library is the hub of our school and will aid our children’s pleasure for reading throughout the year.
Cross-curricular learning is at the heart of all our topics and we ensure a relevant link is made to all subjects possible. We work closely alongside Year Two and this guarantees a progression of skills taught from Year Two to Year Three and we monitor this to inform future planning, this also helps the children with transition in Autumn term. We are inclusive and are always here to support your child grow and enjoy their learning as well as ensuring they are achieving the most at home too.
We also begin to place more emphasis on the learning of times tables in Year Three. The expectation by the end of Year Three, is that children are fluent and able to recall 2x, 5x, 10x, 3x, 4x, and 8x tables. However, once the children move into Year Four, there is a Government Set Multiplication Test that by the summer term, all times tables are known and learnt fluently. Anything you can do to help that knowledge go in and stay in is fantastic. We have listed some suggestions to support your child.
- Practise regularly and go back and repeat tables, previously practised.
- Sing tables in the car; at mealtimes; before bed; walking the dog; at any spare minute!
- Put a poster around the house somewhere they’ll see it and engage with it.
- Download an app to practise on a laptop or tablet. Access Times table Rockstars regularly.
During this year we will promote the Year Three child’s love of learning, independence and curiosity. We do this through our teaching but also through our Multi-Academy Trust’s motto of ‘Be the best you can be’. Throughout the year we will also have Entitlement Experiences to further our skills and understanding of the wider world past the school walls. These will be documented on our school’s Facebook page with photos uploaded as and when they happen. They will also show a set of progressive skills from Nursery all the way to Year Six.
Homework is set every Friday. The children will receive their three reading books, their weekly spellings (a quiz is given every Friday morning) and our half termly ‘Project on a Page’. We also have a range of log ins for the children to develop their learning on apps including; Timetables Rockstars, Language Angels, Spelling Shed and the e-library.
P.E is every Monday morning and Friday afternoon in Year Three. Please make sure your child comes to school in the full and correct P.E. Coloured house t-shirts can be bought from our school office. We will be going outside no matter the weather this year so please make sure the correct clothing is worn or brought to school.
Finally, always keep your eye out on the school Facebook page for updated photos and information on our learning journey through Year Three of the year 2024 - 2025. Plus, don’t forget to regularly check google classroom for quick announcements and homework tasks. We look forward to supporting and encouraging your child’s amazing learning this year! We as well will be there for home support if needed.
Thank you and here’s to an amazing, fun, creative year,
Miss Crayston and Miss Banks
