A warm welcome to our Year Two page at Hambleton Primary Academy, here we hope you find everything you need to know about us!
In Year Two we follow our Key Knowledge and Skills Curriculum which is a creative approach based on the National Curriculum. We will be working hard to develop our existing skills as well as learning lots of new and exciting things this year! We cover objectives missed when appropriate through our engaging, creative curriculum.
We provide a broad and engaging curriculum which is based on the children’s interests and ways of learning which sees all children achieving the best they can. Cross-curricular learning is at the heart of all our topics and we ensure a relevant link is made to all subjects where possible. We ensure lessons are engaging and foster a love for learning, as we plan through a book, to encourage a love of reading across school.
We ensure every lesson meets the needs of the whole class and endeavour that each child succeeds in their challenges. Children have lots of opportunities to respond to feedback both verbally and in their books. They are given time each lesson to correct any mistakes from the previous lesson. They may also be given ‘Challenge Time’, whereby children are given a linked task that encourages the child to apply their learning. If necessary, interventions will be put in place to support your child as and when it’s needed.
During this year we will promote the Year Two child’s love of learning, independence and curiosity. We do this through our teaching but also through our motto of ‘Be Happy, be Proud and be Ambitious. Throughout the year we will also have Entitlement Experiences to further our skills and understanding of the wider world past the school walls. These will be documented on our school’s Facebook page with photos uploaded as and when they happen.
Homework is set every Friday. The children will receive their reading books, their weekly spellings (a quiz is given every Friday) and our half termly ‘Project on a Page’. We also have a range of log ins for the children to develop their learning on apps including; Timetables Rockstars and the e-library.
P.E is every Tuesday and Thursday morning in Year Two. Please make sure your child comes to school in the full and correct P.E. We will be going outside no matter the weather this year so please make sure the correct clothing is worn or brought to school.
Please keep your eye out on the school Facebook page for updated photos and information on our learning journey through Year Two. Plus, don’t forget to regularly check google classroom for homework tasks.
Finally, we will have a student teacher working with us in Year Two this year. Our team look forward to supporting and encouraging your child’s learning this year don’t forget that are there for home support if needed.
Thank you and here’s to an amazing year,
Miss Abbott Mrs Parkinson and Mr Hendy
